Friday, July 15. 2005Black Dragon Defeat
 Sparkkplug and Babygirllil decided it was time for them to complete their Rank 2 mission and they asked me for help. I gladly accepted, changed into my Monk job (with Warrior sub-job) and went off to Giddeus to fight the Black Dragon.I'd done this before and I knew how hard it could be. We figured that Babygirllil as a 20 something Black Mage and Sparkkplug as a 42 White Mage would have no problem supporting me. Boy - were we wrong.  After we entered the burning circle, Sparkkplug lost his armor due the magic of a level cap. "Well, ok" we thought, "we can make this." Babygirllil cast sleep on the Dragon while I went to work on the FLoating Eye that accompanies it. With help from Baby's hard hitting black magic and constant healing from Sparkk, I eventually beat the floating eye with my fists. That left the Dragon. Sparkk was getting close to being tapped out of magic and Baby had enough left for a couple hard hitters. I tried to keep provoking the Dragon while Sparkkplug rested but it didn't help much. The Dragon started destroying me and within a few moments, it was over for me as the Dragon stepped down on me - crushing what little life I had left out of my body.Sparkk hadn't regained much of his magic so Babygirllil put the Dragon to sleep again while Sparkkplug tried to recover. In my incapacitated state, all I could do was watch and hope.  The Dragon wouldn't stay asleep long enough for Sparkk to regain much magic points and Baby was quickly running out herself. Just when I thought the situation was so dire that we'd all be dead, a time limit ran out on the burning circle and we were all ejected.Sparkk got his level back and after some healing for MP, he cast Raise on me. He then teleported us back to the Crag of Holla and we regrouped top tend to our wounds and wait for Drupa's help. What a night! Trackbacks

Wow. I love that battle. I've only done it once, but it was a good battle.
I noticed you've gotten BST up to 21. That was fast! Rock on! I've been reading your site for a while...keep up the good work!
Hiya Onewing! I liked this battle too (even though it KO'd me
 ). Actually, it was much better the second time around because I wasn't so nervous and I had a chance to look around and snap some pictures (even more of a chance while laying on the ground dead  ).Thanks for your support on my BST levelling! I haven't gone as fast as I'd like to, but it hasn't been too bad... Thanks again for your kind words and taking the time to read this humble blog.
Hmmm... Hard to believe someone had such a hard time with this BCNM. When I first did it back as a lowly lv.25THF/WHM, I was ablue to duo it with a BLM. After I switched Nations from Rank 10 Bastok, I was able to solo it as a NIN/WHM. None the less, nice writing. Made for an amusing story to read.

Well, maybe we aren't nearly as strong as you SoulTaker. We should have been more prepared and less cocky though. I had no food, Sparkk and baby had no ethers and we never did really get to plan a startegy. I think it just goes to show that being headstrong and over-confident doesn't always accomplish the task. We did do this again however, and the second time we were able to do it much more easily. Planning made all the difference!
