The Chronicles of Latcarf

After reaching level 30 in the Jungles, I decided to head back home to try to make some money. I need some spells and I'm going to have to get new armor soon.

In Jeuno, I tried to rent a chocobo but they were asking 984 gil! Too rich for my blood, so I found a level 35 White Mage (WHM) willing to teleport me to the Crag of Holla for only 500 gil. I figured this was the quicker and cheaper way so I paid him the 500.

I stopped by Valkurm Dunes before returning to San d'Oria via La Theine and West Ronfaure. I wanted to see if anyone needed a raise. I explored two caves I found in Valkurm and found a Stone Monument and a Swirling Vortex. I'll have to get some more Selbina Clay from the Mayor of Selbina so I can imprint that monument for him. No one needed a raise so I started back home again.

Now I am back in San d'Oria and I am just going to take it easy for a little while. I'll be doing some fishing and after I make a little gil, I will invest in some hatchets for logging. I'll let you know hoe it goes.

Today it took us a while to form a party in Kazham. We had to draw adventurers from as far Upper Jeuno. Once the party was formed, it turned out to be a good one.

Our party started out with a 27 Red Mage/13 Ninja (RDM/NIN), a 29 Warrior/14 Dark Knight (WAR/DRK), a 29 Warrior/5 Monk (WAR/MNK), a 27 Thief/13 Monk (THF/MNK), my brother Drupa - 28 Black Mage/14 Red Mage (BLM/RDM) and me - 28 White Mage/14 Black Mage.

Unfortunately, one of our party members was stuck in Yhoator Jungle without a map. Since we all had maps, we agreed to go there. We all rented chocobos and dropped down the hole in Yhutunga Jungle that leads to Yhoator. The WAR/DRK was experienced in other jobs and knew the Jungles well so he found us a good place to camp at F-7 on the map.

We had a really good run for a while and most of our group gained a level. The good thing was that there were no Goblins to contend with near our camp. Things went a little awry when an adventurer from another party ran three Goblins into us. They killed Drupa and eventually killed me. One of our party members found a White Mage to cast Rasie on us and then we were back to fighting.

After Drupa and I were knocked out, our Thief left so we sought another member. We soon found another White Mage and fought well for a few battles. Until another adventurer trained a bunch of Goblins and Wasps right in to our party again. The Goblins knocked out Drupa and I and we layed there for a while until our new White Mage member raised us.

It is really hard in the Jungles and that hardship is made worse by Goblins and adventurers who take too many risks. The lesson learned should be that if you "have" to bring many Goblins through an area - you should warn everyone first!

I've been fighting here in Yuhtunga Jungle for a few days now. I am finding it both easy and hard.

On the one hand, Yuhtunga Mandragoras are pretty easy to kill. I make sure the party has Barsleepra, I cast Slow on the Mandragora, the it's heal and Regen for the rest of the battle. Not too hard and there's a simple formula for victory.

On the other hand, there are the ever present Goblin Smithies to contend with. And due to them, I think I have been knocked out here in Yuhtunga Jungle more than I have anywhere - including Valkurm Dunes! Until I reached level 27 or so, it was pretty much guaranteed that a Smithy would kill our group unless we could make it back to Kazham first. As I have reached level 28, it is much easier to defat them but we still end up pretty tapped out after fighting one.

I was complaining to my brother Drupa that I hadn't really gotten to use my Raise spell since acquiring it at level 25. I should have shut my mouth. I have raised more fallen adventurers here in Yuhtunga Jungle than I care to remember.

I am looking forward to gaining some more experience here in the Jungle and when I am older, wiser and stronger, I am coming back here to rid this place of the Goblins once and for all!

We've finally made it to Kazham! After receiving the Kazham Airship Pass from Guddal in Jeuno, my brother Drupa and I went straight to the Airship dock! It took a little time to for the airship to arrive and Drupa and I could hardly handle the anticipation. We had taken the ship to Mahura before but the airship was a totally new vehicle and we couldn't wait. As we sat while the airship came, I started forming a party so we could get right down to business as soon as we got to Kazham. There were a few adventurers that joined up with us right there and our party was already almost full.

The ride didn't take too long and the view was breathtaking. It was really rather enjoyable. Other adventurers around me passed the time fishing and sometimes caught monsters. None of the creatures they brought on board were tough most were just easy prey to me so I didn't worry too much. I spent some of my time practicing my Invisible spell- just because it's fun. I mostly ran back and forth on the deck, trying to take in the whole experience at once.

After our arrival in Kazham, we didn't spend much time looking around the town. As a matter of fact we picked up our last couple party members as we cam in and then we ran straight to the gate to Yuhtunga Jungle. Remembering that our Home Points were set in Jeuno, we searched around a bit for a Home Point. After finding one and setting it, he next stop was Yuhtunga Jungle.

My brother Drupa and I thought that finding the keys to Kazham would be a rather easy task. We were sorely mistaken.

He is a Black Mage (BLM), level 24 and I am a White Mage (WHM), level 25. Between the two of us, we knew we could beat the beastmen who carry the keys. Our strength was the one thing we weren't worried about. We decided to first face the Orcs in Fort Ghelsba.

In Fort Ghelsba, the key carriers we targeted were Orcish Cursemakers, Orcish Fighters, and Orcish Serjeants. They weren't so hard to take on but other weaker Orcs had a tendency to be a little aggressive and try to take us on to. They were easy prey but they wasted our valuable time and resources. After killing 10 or so Cursemakers and not finding a single key, I started to shout in frustration.

My shouts were heard by a fellow adventurer. A level 40 Thief (THF). He decided to help us and said we'd have an easier time in Yughott Grotto. He led they way and began killing Orcs left and right. It took a long time but eventually we got two keys (one for Drupa and one for me). We thanked the Thief who helped us (it is much easier finding items with a Thief in your group) and left Yughott Grotto headed for Bastok and the Palborough Mines.

This time we were after Brass Quadavs, Copper Quadavs, and Old Quadavs. We started looking for these Quadav but, not knowing Palborough Mines too well, we had trouble finding them. I yelled out again and got three responses. Two of the adventurers who answered my call decided to help us. They were down in the mines mining and I guess they had grown bored of the tedious work. It took a while even with the help, but eventually we got the two keys we needed. Drupa and I headed next to Giddeus near Windurst.

In Giddeus, we found an adventurer who was waiting for a party so he could kill a Notorious Monster and gain some pieces of Artifact Armor. He agreed to help us while he waited. After a while, a few of his friends showed up and they joined us too. Like in Fort Ghelsba, these adventurers were much higher level than Drupa and I and they made quick work of the Yagudo Priests, Theologists, and Votaries we were after. It took forever still but finally, Drupa and I had gotten the keys we needed. After thanking our new friends we left Giddeus.

We returned to Jeuno, weary but happy, and handed the hard-earned keys over to Guddal. He awarded us both with Kazham Airship Passes and Drupa and I went into our rented Mog Houses and collapsed from exhaustion.

I dreamt that night of Kazham. I have never seen it. Visions of a dense jungle ran through my mind all night - I am eager to see if my dreams were accurate.
