As I was fishing today, still trying to make gil, someone shouted about the Eco-Warrior quest. I've done this quest a few times already but since I want money and it will get you a cool 5000 gil, I figured it was more lucrative than fishing right now (even with the full moon).
The quest requires you to wear an ointment that causes your level to drop to 20 if you are any higher than that. Since I've been traveling as a level 17 Black Mage (BLM), I figured I could go as is and take advantage of my Warp spell to get out of Ordelle's Caves quick. Usually it is much harder to get out of the cave since half the alliance usually warps or teleports out anyway.
We had a full alliance (three parties of six members each), and the group seemed to listen and be patient. There are a few things that have to exist for a successful Eco-Warrior quest. You need a full alliance, you need a group that listens, you need a group that is patient, and finally you need a group that sticks together. Missing any of these key attributes makes completing the quest with no loss of life exponentially harder.
This particular group had all these key attributes and the quest went very smoothly. There was one knock-out but that was due to a goblin aggro after we had already defeated the Necroplasm - so it didn't really count.
When we were done I warped out of there and went fishing in Knightswell in West Ronfaure since there was still a full moon. All in all, it was a pretty lucrative quest. 5000 gil and 852 experience points.
Here is how I fish. I have a small system of two macros that I use to fish and add bait. The add bait macro is just for laziness really and it doesn't have to be used if you want to conserve macro space.
The fishing macro I call "Fish". It times the fishing process for you and provides some feedback while you are waiting. The syntax is as follows:
Fish
/echo Waiting to fish...
/wait 8
/echo Still waiting to fish...
/wait 6
/echo Fish on!
/fish
The add bait macro I call "AddB". It equips your bait and restarts the fishing cycle after the bait had been added. The syntax for it is as follows:
AddB
/echo Adding Insect Ball as bait...
/equip ammo "Insect Ball"
/echo Fish on!
/fish
Change the two instances of "Insect Ball" to whatever bait you are using.
Start the cycle by using the regular /fish command. Then, just use the macro as it will time everything for you. While waiting, you can interact with your inventory, etc... but make sure you don't start another macro since it will cancel the fishing macro.
When the macro doesn't work because "You can't fish without bait on the hook", just hit the AddB macro. I added the last /fish line in the AddB macro so you don't have to manually start the cycle again.
This one thing this macro system can't account for is inventory space. During the "waiting to fish" phases, you should use the time to auto-sort your inventory to make sure you have room for a newly caught fish. Nothing is worse than losing a fish because your inventory is full. You will also have to make sure you have a standing supply of bait in you inventory.
I hope this macro system will make your fishing experience easier and less tedious.
