After my
failed attempt at finding Ghatsad's Automaton I was feeling a bit down and decided I needed a little break. In Aht Urhgan Whitegate, I stopped into the Shararat Teahouse and struck up a conversation with Ratihb. In the midst of our chat, some action errrupted nearby. It seems there is a group of Corsairs (pirates bascially) called the Seagull Phratrie that are the scourge of the Empire of Aht Urhgan. After their scuffle with one of the townspeople, they were gone in a puff of smoke before anyone could catch them.
I got some important information about the group from one of the city's guards and I decided to pursue this Seagull Phratrie on my own. It was off to Nashmau
again and so I boarded the ferry at Port Ephramad.
Unfortuantely, I needed to go to Arrapago Reef again which meant I had to travel through Caedarva Mire again. This was where I was knocked out so badly
last time - it wasn't going to be a fun trip, I imagined. I realized it must be my destiny to get to that reef and now was as good a time as ever to try to get there again.
In Nashmau I became a White Mage again and made sure I had sneak and invisible spells cast on me at all times. This time around, I would make a special effort to keep my eyes open for those nasty Imps. Twice shy, I stepped out of Nashmau and into the Caedarva Mire. I'd make it this time. I had no choice in the matter.
The travel was much safer this time and I didn't have any trouble getting through the mire. I saw one Imp near the cave heading to Arrapago Reef but it was already in a fight with a party of adventurers and thus didn't pay any attention to me as I ran right past it. I even gave him a slap as I went by just to get some revenge for knocking me out. I was happy the party was close to defeating the wretched little creature!
One of the adventurers in the party saw me heading toward the cave to Arrapago Reef and asked me if I planned on going in. When I said I did, he warned me that there was a gate in there that would require a Lamia Fang key. He told me he had seen a key near a boggy area at I-7 on the map. He said it wasn't far from where we were and that I could easily find it myself if I kept up my senak and invisible spells.
I decided to trust the adventurer (after all, he did just defeat an Imp) and went looking for the key. It turned out to be much easier to find than I had thought it would be. As I returned to the cave leading to Arrapago Reef, I looked for the adventurer to thank him but the party was no longer there. Fortunately, neither were any Imps!
In the reef I came upon a ship wreck. I recast sneak and invisible to avoid some undead and Lamia (strange female snake creatures), and then started to move through the wreckage. I happened to look down and there was Ghatsad's prototype Automaton right at my feet! Feeling luck was on my side, I contiuned on - hoping to find some clue of the location of the Seagull Phratrie. Eventually I encountered a locked gate. Fortunately I had the Lumia Fang key necessary to unlock it. I'd buy that adventurer dinner if I ever saw him again!
I came upon another ship wreck and I found some evidence of the Seagull Phraterie there. I turned around to exit the ship and I was confronted by a Corsair. He told me what I really wanted was in Talacca Cove and that it was there that I should go. I decided to go see what I could find. I warped back to Nashmau to find the easiest way to get to Talacca Cove.
In Nashmau some adventurers said I had to travel through Caedarva Mire again to get to Talacca Cove. The travel was a bit easier since there were ruins which provided a better cover when trying to avoid Imps. Also, they mentioned that the entrance to Talacca Cove was much closer than the one to Arrapago Reef. Another adventurer pointed me to the west gate of Nashmau, where I crossed into the mire again.

The adventurers where right, travel was easier for me thorugh this area of the mire. Soon I was in Talacca Cove without incident. I searched around a bit in the dark cove and found a forgotten hexagun. Of course, as it goes with pirates, it wasn't long before the Seagull Phratrie showed up and I met Gilgamesh. I told them what I'd found on the ship and they realized they had a traitor in their midst. The crafty pirates had him pegged and Gilgamesh ran him out. For my part in the bust, they offered to have my join them as a Corsair.
I don't know if I will ever be able to live the life of a Corsair but having friends in the Seagull Phratrie can't be an altogether bad thing.
My luck in finding Ghatsad's prototype Automaton, while looking for the Corsairs of the Seagull Phratrie totally made up for the depression I had about my failed attempt the first time. I decided it was time to pay Ghatsad a visit again! When I arrived
